オーケストラとロックの融合作品は数あれど、ここまで楽曲のメロディとシンフォニーが一体となっているものは稀だろう。
世界的にも評価の高いベルリンフィルをバックに高々と歌い上げるクラウス・マイネの歌唱力もじつに見事で、バンドの楽曲がひときわスケール感をともなって壮麗に輝いている。
オケのダイナミズムが泣きのメロディと組み合わさった、感動的なアルバムに仕上がっている。

I seldom listen to this now. However, I keep it as a part of history. I even bought the CD. Listening to it can wrap you up in the time. I was never very radical, yet this album held and holds a truth. It took this popular music to remind people that if you do not watch the government, that it will be watching you.

アメリカにおけるハード/ヘヴィーロックはニューヨークを中心としたイーストコーストのものと考えられていた時代のことだ。今でこそベイエリア出身のヘヴィーメタルバンドなど掃いて捨てる程いるが、モントローズが登場した当時のウエストコーストのロックシーンと言えば、イーグルスをはじめとするいわゆるウエストコーストサウンドやファンク系の音楽が全盛だったのです。そんななかを何の前触れもなくギンギンのハードロックバンドであるモントローズが突如出現したのです。その衝撃はどれだけ大きかったことでしょうか。私には想像もつきません。モントローズは商業的に大成功したとは言い難いのですが、後のアメリカンハードロックの歴史をたどれば、いかに偉大な足跡を残したかは誰にでもわかることです。このアルバムにはハードロックのクラシックナンバーが何曲も収録されています。ハードロックファンなら聴いたことのある曲ばかりだと思います。ちなみにキッスの06年日本公演で流れていたのは、バッドモータースクーターです。
